Alternative Data > Influential Data Scientist
Former CTO at Capital One and Reuters, Roy Lowrance is a thought leader in financial applications of A.I. and an inspirational role model.
Prior to co-founding 7 Chord, Roy has designed and developed the Center for Data Science at NYU, which became a focal point for all machine learning research across the university. The Center was established to help advance NYU’s goal of creating the country’s leading data science training and research facilities, and arming researchers and professionals with the tools to harness the power of big data.
While at NYU, Roy wrote his dissertation in machine learning approaches to real-estate pricing under the supervision of Yann LeCun and Dennis Shasha, focusing on the problem academics refer to as "concept drift" and practitioners call market regime changes. Traditional quant models are particularly bad at handling market regime changes - most quant models don't perform well across market environments. Roy's innovation was in designing a machine learning system that overcame these limitations. From this research 7 Chord's BondDroid platform was born.
Roy has served as a machine learning advisor to multiple VC firms. He is the embodiment of the life-time learning, and is routinely quoted as one of the most influential mentors and advisors to generations of software engineers.
PhD in Machine Learning from NYU, Harvard (MBA), Vanderbilt University (BA in Math).
