Alternative Data > Influential Data Scientist
Sustainable investing is only as good as the markers used to measure “sustainability.” That’s why, at Ethic--a technology-driven asset manager focused on accelerating the global transition to sustainable investing--the curation, analysis, and implementation of our data is of the utmost importance. It’s also one of the most dynamic parts of our job, and we feel fortunate to have data science lead Travis Korte at the helm.
There’s been a lot of noise in the sustainable investing space in recent years, and investment advisors have often found themselves overwhelmed with a seemingly endless array of ESG data. Travis is committed to helping them interpret and digest said data, becoming sustainability experts for their clients. His series of monthly interviews, “Tuesdays with Travis”, seeks to deconstruct and demystify complex concepts for advisors, answering questions such as: How do you interpret data in the sustainable investing context? How do you make that information actionable? Is it costly to incorporate? When should one divest versus invest in the context of sustainable investing? How do you choose the data that best captures a topic as vast as education? What does it mean for information to be “material?” How to determine what’s material and what’s not?
Travis’ diligent approach to vetting, processing and incorporating data points has translated to thoughtful, useful, and intuitive tools for investing more sustainably. His thought leadership is resonating with advisors, particularly as they see increased demand among clients for customized and intelligent sustainable investing options.
Travis’ near-decade of professional experience spans technology journalism, computer science and statistics. He graduated with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley, having studied critical theory and completed coursework in computer science and economics. At Ethic, he’s passionate about identifying the data that is relevant, meaningful and personalized to the issues clients care about most.
